Vokalensemble 1600 is an acappella Renaissance ensemble formed in 2018 in Munich (Germany). The amateur singers and their conductor Christoph Hauser are dedicated to the accurate and multifaceted performance of polyphonic music composed around the year 1600.
Their repertoire includes motets and masses by Peter Philips, William Byrd, Clément Jannequin and others, combining pieces of famous and lesser known composers mainly of the Renaissance period.
The Vokalensemble 1600 aims to perform several concerts and masses every year, mostly in and near Munich. The members are always keen to collaborate with other musicians and to go on a journey together. In 2019, their first tour abroad has led them to Vienna (Austria), where they were invited to perform at the famous jesuit church.
Christoph Hauser was born in the Allgaeu, Germany. At the age of 6, he started his music education and when he was 14, he received his first organ lesson with the organist of the Basilica in Ottobeuren and served as assistent organist.
After finishing school, he studied piano with Gottfried Hefele, organ performance with Harald Feller and conducting with Roderich Kreile and Michael Gläser at the University for Music and Theatre in Munich, passing the exam with distinction in 1996.
Hauser has taken master classes with many leading artists including Ben van Oosten, Ton Koopman, Guy Bovet and Pierre Pincemaille.
He has lectured at the University for Music in Munich and the Academy of Music at the Bavarian School for the Blind and performed in radio and television broadcasts such as the Bavarian Broadcasting Company.
As of 2014, Hauser was appointed the organist of the world famous baroque „Fux“ organ, at the Fuerstenfeld Minster in Fuerstenfeldbruck. He also is the music director of the splendid baroque church with various choral ensembles.
He is the conductor of the Vokalensemble 1600 and the german-french choral association in Munich and regularly performs in Germany and abroad including USA, Canada and Israel, participating in concert series and well known festivals. His CD recordings are highly acclaimed.
